February is Freeze Out Bullying Month

From the AMS Office: During Freeze Out Bullying Month, there will be a weekly focus along with a weekly incentive for selected groups that display or win the challenge.

Week 1 (2/1-2/8): Slogan Contest
Task: IB Communities design a slogan for Freeze Out February. Department chairs will judge slogans on Friday, February 8. Teachers should have slogans placed outside of classroom by end of the day on Thursday, February 7.
Incentive: One IB Community in each grade-level will win the slogan contest. Winners in each grade-level will receive Freeze Pops.

Week 2 (2/11-2/15): Kindness Matters Week
Task: Teachers will sign kindness certificates as they see students demonstrating random acts of kindness. Kindness certificates will be placed in each grade-level administrator’s mailbox.
Incentive: The grade level with the most kindness certificates turned in by the end of the week will receive mini ice cream cups during IB community.

Week 3 (2/19-2/22): Positive Referral Blitz
Task: Teachers will write positive referrals for students demonstrating aspects of ROAR; specifically focusing on RESPECT.
Incentive: The grade level with the most positive referrals focusing on RESPECT turned in by the end of the week will receive ice cream sandwiches during IB community.

Week 4 (2/1-2/28-all month): Freeze Before You Act
Task: Teachers and staff members will help students “freeze” their negative actions with other students.
Incentive: The grade level with the fewest number of referrals for the month of February will receive an ice cream social that will be during 5th and 6th period.

Parent Volunteers Needed to Lead Tours of Prospective Families

February 5, 7, 12 and 13
10:50 a.m. – 12:30 p.m

The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme at Annapolis Middle offers 70 spots each year to students from outside of our feeder area. This year, we have 171 eligible magnet applicants from 25 different elementary schools for next year’s sixth-grade class.
Before accepting seats, these students and their parents often want to visit AMS to see if the school is a good fit for them. For this reason, we offer student-led shadow days and parent-led tours each year. We would like to have current AMS parents volunteer to lead small groups of prospective parents on a tour of the school. You may choose to lead tours on one or more dates.

>>  Click here for more details and to sign up to lead a tour.

If you have questions, you may contact Domenick Chiddo, International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme Coordinator,at dchiddo@aacps.org.
